Process

How the class B licence works

Five stages – your personal plan also shows your earliest possible dates and all deadlines.

    Prepare

    Choose a driving school, get an eye test, a first-aid course and a passport photo.

  2. 2

    Apply

    At the driving licence office (Fahrerlaubnisbehörde) – at the earliest 6 months before the minimum age.

  3. 3

    Theory

    Lessons, learning with an app and the theory exam at TÜV or DEKRA.

  4. 4

    Practice

    Practice lessons, 12 special drives and the practical exam.

  5. 5

    Licence

    Provisional proof straight after the exam, card by post.

Where our information comes from

  • Official sources first: the driving licence regulation (FeV), fee schedule, authority websites and official lists – with link and check date.
  • Open data: driving school locations from OpenStreetMap, exam statistics from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (Federal Motor Transport Authority).
  • Provider details: driving schools can claim their profile and maintain their own prices – we show when they were last confirmed.
  • Neutral: the order of results cannot be bought. Paid placements are always labelled “Sponsored”.
